Nowzad - how it all started - Afghan Marines and their kittens

The Results are In!

Let’s start with a great big thank you to all that came on October 2nd to participate! Paws ‘n Cause managed to add a whooping 103.6 miles to the Nowzad challenge of spanning the distance between the UK and Afghanistan! That’s a lot for a small group and we are thrilled to be able to make a difference.

Speaking of making a difference - our first walk ever and we managed to collect a very respectable $250.00! That’s amazing for a first time. In fact it’s just plain awesome.

Here is the breakdown:

  • 2-legged participants: 20
  • 4-legged participants: 17
  • Cash from Signups: $180.00
  • Cash from Sponsors: $70.00

I believe that our little group alone has made a difference - has had an impact - perhaps one puppy or kitten will make it out of hell and stay with their soldier because of us … We will make sure to keep you posted if we hear anything.

If nothing else, everyone one of us spread the word and now a few more people know about Nowzad. It is our earnest hope, here at Paws ’n Cause, that the awareness will continue to bring donations to this most exceptional organization.

To all of you - Thank you … and well done!

Why Did we Choose Nowzad?

We believe that the story of young soldiers caring for small kittens and wanting to bring home their charges speaks volumes louder than we ever could. Their desire for companionship, their open and caring hearts shows us the very fabric of their souls.

These brave men and women have accepted to put their lives on the line for us, and our way of life. Every day - thousands of of us... Canadians, Americans, Brits and other citizens of the world walk our dogs and caresses our cats. We go out, in peace. We live our lives with our loving pets because some soldier - somewhere past or present was/is doing their job. Do they really need the added trauma of having to leave their furry friends behind?

Paws 'n Cause felt that these soldiers weren't asking for much, just a chance to save these kittens from abandonment and certain death when the marines left their post by taking them home. It was time to do something.

Helping our Canadian soldiers:

For examples of their work in Canada, read the story of Jody the cat who was rescued by a Canadian soldier and the story of Lolly, the dog who has now found a forever loving home in Canada.
